The Impact of Divorce on Children Destani Hill 201320 Spring 2013 PSYCH 231-B06 LUO March 10, 2013 Abstract Unfortunately divorce is at an all-time high around the world today and there aren’t any signs of it slowing. Numerous amount of stress can stem from divorce, not only for the couple involved but for the child or children involved as well. This paper reflects on the many different effects that divorce can have on children ages eighteen and under in the United States, as well as other countries. In comparison, studies show that there is usually an emotional disconnect involving children of divorced parents or ones whom have begun the long strenuous process. They hypothesized that those children who had experience family transitions such as divorce were less likely to succeed. (Ruschena, Prior, Sanson, amp; Smart, 2005). The results of the study show that children who displayed the most problem weren’t due to the divorce itself but to the relationship with the parents and their actions. â€Å"Using data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study—Kindergarten cohort (ECLS-K) (N = 10,061), I examined the role of psychosocial well-being in the relationship between divorce and children’s outcomes† (Potter, 2010).
